Description
Palo Alto Networks next-generation firewall (NGFW) is one of the leading enterprise firewalls used by companies around the world to protect against various cyber-attacks. It runs on its own operating system PAN-OS.
A reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability exists in the PAN-OS management web interface. A remote attacker able to convince an administrator with an active authenticated session on the firewall management interface to click on a crafted link to that management web interface could potentially execute arbitrary JavaScript code in the administrator's browser and perform administrative actions.
Other vulnerabilities were reported that affect the same PAN-OS version:
- Arbitrary OS command execution by an authorized user — CVE-2020-2037 and CVE-2020-2038
- DoS by an unauthorized user — CVE-2020-2039
Remediation
Upgrade to the latest version of PAN-OS. This issue is fixed in PAN-OS 8.1.16, PAN-OS 9.0.9, and all later PAN-OS versions.
